HUMAN RESOURCES POLICY

ASM believes that good human resource, both shore-based and shipboard, is the key to quality operations. It has a stringent policy for appointment of both ship and shore staff.

a) SHIPS PERSONNEL
The company believes that safe and efficient operation of a vessel is greatly dependent on the proficiency and experience of the staff serving on the ship. To ensure that the vessels are excellently manned, it employs staff who are duly qualified to serve in the rank they have been selected for. Seafarers who are mentally and physically sound and medically fit to effectively execute the set objectives of ASM are employed. In addition, seafarers are assigned to the types of ships on which they have had previous experience.

At all times, the company provides a safe and healthy working environment to all staff and inculcates in them a sense of loyalty and dedication in order to enable them to become long serving employees of the company.

b) SHORE PERSONNEL
Superintendents with a sound record and who may have worked as Masters or Chief Engineers within the fleet and shown outstanding leadership quality are appointed. For appointing a Superintendent from outside the ASM fleet, verification of his performance and ability is made through references. All appointments are made on the premise that the first six months is the probation during which employee's capability is assessed by the Senior Management. On satisfactory completion of this probation period, if found fit, he is confirmed as a Superintendent

The other shore personnel are recruited through advertisements and selected on the basis of interviews conducted by the HR Department and/or department heads. Special emphasis is put on their past experience and background. Their performance is also appraised during the probation period.
